About this artwork
Trier's Basilica of Constantine, the Aula Palatina, is the largest surviving hall of classical antiquity: a solid-brick Roman palace basilica of about AD 300–310, 67 metres long, 26 metres wide and 33 metres high, ending in a great semicircular apse. Built as Constantine's throne hall with hypocaust heating, it now serves as the Protestant Church of the Redeemer beside the Electoral Palace, its bare brick restored after wartime damage.
