About this artwork
Neumagen-Dhron, Germany's oldest wine village, keeps the Stella Noviomagi at anchor in its harbour: a full-size sailing replica, built in 2007, of the Roman wine ship carved on a wine merchant's tomb monument of about AD 220. The wooden ship is almost 18 metres long and rowed by 22 oars, its hull loaded with wine barrels as the Roman original carried them down the Moselle.
